Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship
Training in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is part of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery (ENT) residency training and board certification in Otolaryngology. After completing a five-year Otolaryngology residency, some ENT physicians elect to obtain additional training in facial plastic surgery by pursuing a fellowship and an additional board certification in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Since 2007, Dr. Frankel has been a fellowship director and has trained an academic fellow under the auspices of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. During a one-year fellowship, the fellow learns by surgical and clinical observation of Dr. Frankel’s practice, by instructing otolaryngology residents at the University of Southern California in facial plastics procedures, and by doing selective cases on their own.
Although Dr. Frankel performs all of his own surgical procedures, the fellow aids surgical flow and efficiency by assisting Dr. Frankel in the operating room. The fellow is intimately involved with the practice and enhances in-office and post-operative care by being available for patient needs over the phone, email, or in person.
